Diploma Policy

Degrees will be conferred on those who have 1) acquired a high level of knowledge in the fields of life sciences and medicine; and 2) demonstrated the ability to identify potential problems by themselves and subsequently come up with the appropriate solutions.
Candidates for a degree will have to meet the conditions listed below.
Candidates will have to fulfill the requirements laid down by the research department of the graduate school. They will have to complete the scheduled lectures and attain more than the minimum number of credits. They will have to meet the requirements of the final examination set by the research department (a master's dissertation). They will have to obtain formal recognition of success in this from the committee concerned. Furthermore, the candidate will be expected to demonstrate the following:

    1. The ability to explain logically the background, purpose, and significance of their research.
    2. Adequate knowledge of both established and cutting-edge progress both domestically and abroad in their chosen field.
    3. The ability to understand and explain the scientific validity of their chosen research methodology.
    4. The ability to give a logical interpretation of their results, discuss, and draw a conclusion therefrom.
    5. The ability to independently assess the ethical aspects of research.
    6. The ability to reply to questions concerning their research when presented.

Curriculum Policy

This curriculum has been devised based on the policy laid out below. It is aimed at fostering researchers in the life sciences with ambition for the future, researchers with high levels of skill and knowledge in medicine and medical care.

    1. The candidate will study the life sciences in small groups through lectures, seminars, and practical training aimed at furnishing them with a good general knowledge of the basics in the field of medicine.
    2. The candidate will be assigned to the department appropriate to their selected specialty at time of enrolment. Cutting-edge specialist knowledge and skills will be acquired through hands-on experience of research activities.
    3. The candidate will be required to make presentations at academic conferences both domestically and abroad (including at the Tokyo Medical University Academic Conference held twice a year). They will acquire the ability to field questions and the ability to write an academic paper under the direct tutelage of one of our teaching staff.

Admission Policy

Candidates for our Master's Program who have graduated in disciplines other than medicine will be required to meet the following requirements:

    1. Candidates with a spirit compatible with our motto of "Justice, Friendship and Service".
    2. Candidates with the desire to deepen their knowledge of medicine and further the development of medical research conducted in line with the highest ethical standards.
    3. Candidates with the desire to pursue cutting-edge basic and translational research in the field of medicine.
    4. Candidates with the desire to undertake innovative research in a pioneering spirit with the aim of deepening existing knowledge and standards and becoming a future leader in the development of medical research.
    5. Candidates who have acquired a basic working knowledge of the English language as an essential tool for the gathering and analysis of information in the field of medicine.
