A BRIEF HISTORY


May, 1916 More than 400 students of Nihon Medical School band
together, leave the school and work to establish a new
institute.
September, 1916 Tokyo Medical Studies Institute was established on the
Tokyo Physics School of College.
April, 1918 The establishment of Tokyo Medical Technical School
was recognized.

School President, Tatsujiro Sato
May, 1931 Opening of the affiliated Yodobashi Clinic (afterwards
renamed Yodobashi Hospital).
May, 1946 Establishment of Tokyo Medical University was
authorized and at the same the hospital was renamed
Tokyo Medical University Hospital. The Health
Education for Women was established (closed in March,
1951).
March, 1949 Authorization to open up the imperial university style
university.
September, 1949 Establishment of Tokyo Medical University Kasumigaura
Hospital in lbaraki Prefecture.
January 1955 Authorization to establish a 6-year medical university.
March, 1957 Authorization to establish a graduate school.
April, 1976 Introduction of the 6-year integrated curriculum.
April, 1980 Establishment of Tokyo Medical University Hachioji
Medical Center in Hachioji.
April, 1986 Opening of the new Tokyo Medical University Hospital.
